Read the following passage and then answer the questions that follow. In that year, people harvested a lot. It had not happened for almost a decade that there were such harvests. The granaries were full of maize, millet, rice, sorghum, pigeon peas, beans, peas, and groundnuts. A lot of meat was brought from the forest, which the women spread out and dried on the fire. Also, large fish were found in abundance, fish that had never been found there before. Everyone in the village was happy. The harvest was accompanied by end-of-year celebrations, which were very enjoyable. Ululations were heard, drums were beaten, and marimbas sounded in the village while people of all ages danced without regard to whether they were old or young. Girls around the age of sixteen shook their bodies attractively, their feet following special patterns on the dusty, hard ground, dancing with embellishments, rotating their necks like giraffes in the savanna. They danced in pairs, some two by two and others three by three. Later, the boys danced their dances. As the drums beat, the young men jumped high like antelopes. The elders sat back and were satisfied, while the women cheered with ululations as the exhausted youth left the stage. While the women and youth were dancing and singing, the elders sat by the fire drinking fresh juice. One by one, the elders stood up and started dancing. They felt young again. Although they did not have the speed of the youth, they surpassed them in attractiveness and creativity of their dance. Page 5 of 7

Each player demonstrated their prowess in playing the marimba, singing, and dancing. When one stopped, another emerged, singing and joining the established tune. They were like a marimba music band, whose playing captivated every listener with a melody that could draw a snake out of its hole. The rhythm of the marimba music penetrated deep into their hearts. During sunset, people rested to eat. The marimba players joined the drummers, and thus the dancing continued until midnight. What made people leave the arena was exhaustion or sleep.
